![]() ![]() The problem is when a full exhaust system is installed onto a bike with the emissions system still in place and the stock ECU fuel map is unchanged this results in a lean mixture (due to more air but the same amount of fuel), and exhaust popping (backfiring?) I believe it is the exhaust popping which does damage to which internal components I am unsure of without further research. With a restrictive emissions system and stock ECU map still in place these are the performance limiting factors. The performance gains by a slip-on alone are negligible. Having a custom fuel map is always the optimal way to go, and that can be done by flashing the ECU and making a new map or getting a fuel management system such as Power Commander, Bazzaz, RapidBike, etc. A lot of other motorcycle models can deal with the change better and will run happily without a tune. Order Here Order Here IN THE PAST DECADE, WE HAVE FLASHED MORE MOTORCYCLE ECU'S THAN ANYONE ELSE ON THE PLANET FOR ONE MAIN REASON: ALL OF OUR CUSTOM FUEL AND IGNITION MAPPING IS BUILT SPECIFICALLY FOR EACH MOTORCYCLE AND INTAKE/EXHAUST COMBINATION THAT WE. I plan on using OEM Air Filter indefinitely.Īs BluebirdR3 suggested, installing only a slip-on does little to nothing more than sound and weight reduction (and satisfies aesthetic appeal). The R3's stock OEM can only adjust the air/fuel ratio to a very small extent which is why it can't cope with the large change that an aftermarket exhaust and air filter causes - thus a tune is recommended. I always install exhaust and a fuel programmer on every bike I own for the performance enrichment. By far the best power and performance bang-for-the-buck upgrade for your Yamaha R3 / MT-03 is to install a top performing exhaust with our Velocity Stack setup and our Race Spec ECU Flash. 2018-2019 Yamaha R3 DataLink ECU Flashing Kit (Euro only) 380.00 getecu groupid'105' 4-Pin FT DataLink USB Cable. bikes and a 20108 Yamaha WR250R single cyl. 2015 Yamaha YZF-R3 Review utmmediumdescription&utmcampaignYama. engine since I owned a Kawasaki LTD 440 in the mid 80's. Toce Full Exhaust (for asthetics/full system)Īlthough the messaging was months ago, I remember someone from one of these three companies describing the setup working best with a stock filter. Hello members, I purchased my R3 about 3 weeks ago and this is my first 2 cyl. Once I get past brakes, suspension, and clutch work (which will happen, eventually), I plan on doing a full exhaust, ECU flash, and run a fuel controller in no specific order: ![]()
